M Revathy Sriram
THE ORIGINAL
‘IT’ AUDITOR
In the mid-eighties, when IT still meant Income Tax and not
Information Technology, Revathy Sriram was emerging as the
rising star of ‘systems audit.’ Over the years, as technology grew
spectacularly and auditors had to stop looking at computers as a black
box, the grand lady became the go-to person on matters involving
systems. Now 81, she is perhaps India’s first woman to be a systems
auditor. That, incidentally, is not her only claim to fame.
When I first visited the factory, the security thought I
had mistakenly stepped in instead of getting into the
head office! When I was made second in command in
the IT department, Many doubted whether a woman
who was not a qualified systems manager could manage
the position.
